Hospice of Peel
Multicultural Show 2007
Lester B Pearson Theatre, Brampton ON

That Hospice care is the active, compassionate care of the terminally ill and is provided with the purpose of assisting individuals with a life threatening illness to live full, active and independent lives for as long as possible. Hospice care should be equitable to all individuals living with a terminal illness. Hospice clients along with their families and loved ones should be encouraged to understand the options available to them and is an important component in developing a plan of care. Hospice care should be delivered by a multidisciplinary team that provides sensitive and skilled care to meet their physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs of both the individual and the family. Hospice care should be individualized; provide services that are adaptable and responsive to the special needs of the individual and their loved ones; and must not be disease specific. Hospice care services must be available to individuals living with a terminal illness wherever they reside; including Long Term Care Facilities, Hospitals and the individual's own home. Hospice care education of service providers is essential to maximize the quality of care delivered to individuals living with a terminal illness and their loved ones. Hospice care service providers and agencies must maintain confidentiality of the individual and family. Hospice care should be timely and available when it's needed to be effective in providing quality Hospice care.More information and activites of Hoispice of Peel please visit http://www.hospiceofpeel.com/2/
Ontario International Development Agency support for the cause and Multicultural Show to raise funds for the project. Esa Para Esananda, Director of Hospice of Peel managed and coordinated the event. An outstanding group of performers entertained the crowd with tremendous performances from the Bharatha Shethiram Dance School, the Cracovia Dance Group, Ibitssam, and Melani Ratnam, to name few. All proceeds from this project donated to the Hospice of Peel.

Hospice of Peel, Inc. began in 1985 when Ms. Laurie Bennett, a palliative care professional at a local hospital, realized the need for a community service to help clients like hers live at home at the end of their lives. Hospice was organized on her dining room table that year with one Client Volunteer training program and 18 terminally ill clients served in their homes.
To Bennett's credit the quality and breadth of Hospice services have never faltered! Since its establishment, Hospice of Peel has served over 6,500 terminally ill and over 22,750 of their family members in Mississauga and Brampton. Bennett retired in April 2000, leaving a well-established groundwork for the future growth of the agency. Today the agency consists of a service-delivery team of 12 staff and 300 Volunteers serving approximately 600 clients and 2100 family members.
