"For Better World"

International Development Week (IDW), the signature week for Canada’s international development community. It provides a unique opportunity for the Canadian organizations and individuals to show their challenges and successes in international development. IDW 2008 will celebrate all aspects of international development and highlight the results achieved by Canada and Canadian organizations and individuals in many different fields. The week will emphasize the importance of international development and will demonstrate that Canada’s aid efforts are focused, effective, and accountable.

Ontario International Development Agency celebrated International Development week on February 07, 2008. Event was held at the Instruction Room, J N Desmarais Library, Laurentian University, Sudbury. Gerry Labelle from Make Poverty History delivered keynote address. Angela Mione (CIDA) and Joseph Hategikimana (Rwandan Coalition, OIDA) also addressed the gathering. Anne Boulton Laurentian University student "MA Humanities and Interpretation and Values" received sponsorship and air ticket to go to Reaching the Unreached project, Tamil Nadu India to complete her overseas practicum. Anne's practicum supervisor Dr. Marilyn Orr who also go to India received emergency travel funds at this event.

Gerry has worked as an independent consultant specializing in organizational development, and in the design and delivery and/or management of programs or projects in a number of areas including health, education and manufacturing and mining. Gerry attended school in Sudbury. He also attended Laurentian University and graduated from Ecole Normale de Sudbury in 1974. Gerry always contributes to our community in a number of ways and great supporter and booster of Sudbury and Northern Ontario
